Led by 3rd generation entrepreneur and Managing Director Mr. Chavinka Sumanatilleke and a team of passionate and purposeful individuals who are well versed in the fine art of jewellery design and manufacturing, the company has etched its presence as a thought leader & trendsetter with a belief to be bold and inventive in all its engagements.
The company’s Board of Directors comprises Dr. Mr. Manilka Sumanatilleke, Mr. Niranga Sumanatilleke, Mr. Chavinka Sumanatilleke and Mrs. Nirmali de Silva.
Our History
A heritage well engraved
The company was incorporated in the year 1920 as GMA de Silva Ltd. by founder and chairman, the late Mr. G.M.A de Silva with the intention of providing gold pawning services to residents in Ambalangoda. After a successful period in business, the son of the founder, the late Mr. G.M.S. de Silva who once served in the Ambalangoda Urban Council with great distinction took on the mantle in 1956 and in turn, played a pivotal role in transforming the operations of the company into manufacturing and retail of fine jewellery under the name of GMA de Silva Jewellers. During the years that followed, new thinking and personnel were introduced which corresponded with Mr. Chavinka Sumanatilleke assuming the role of Managing Director in 2018.
Moreover, the company witnessed a major milestone with the opening of its 2nd store in the city of Galle in 2019. In the aftermath of this important event, GMA de Silva broadened its horizons with the launching of the Akeena Collection in 2020 which focused on the Colombo and export markets. Further, steps were taken to add value to the Galle Jewellery Store with the inclusion of pawning facilities in 2021. Also, worthy of mention was the inaugurating of a state of the art flagship store in Ambalangoda that transpired in 2022.
A Journey of Achievements
- GMA de Silva Ltd. was incorporated which offered gold pawning services – 1920.
